Arugam Bay is Sri Lanka’s surfing paradise. It is also famed for the idyllic beach, quiet streets, historic sites, friendly people, and mouth-watering sea food.
Arugam Bay caters to surfing pros and amateurs alike. The surfing points are categorised by their level of intensity. The Main Point and Pottuvil Point are ideal for professionals and the Baby and Whiskey Points suit the beginners.
The best season to surf in Arugam Bay is from May to September, where dry weather prevails. The best waves arrive in July, August, and September. The ideal times in the day for surfing are from 5.00 am to 8. 00 am and again from 4.00pm to 6.00pm. Yet, many beachgoers spend time at the beach throughout the day.
A tour of the Arugam Bay fishing village in a characteristically noisy Tuk-Tuk (motorised rickshaw) is a good way to catch a fleeting glimpse of the local way of life.
