Pasikudah is a beach-enthusiast’s paradise. Located in the east coast of Sri Lanka, 295 km from the capital of Colombo, Pasikudah is famed for its white sandy beach and shallow bay with gorgeous turquoise waters. This popular resort town, burgeoning with tourist centric developments, is home to some of the finest accommodation properties in the east coast, ranging from high end luxury hotels to chic boutique villas and guesthouses.
Pasikudah is a year-round destination; with the period between July to September being the busiest. The shallow, tepid, crystal clear waters, with its colourful tropical fish and coral reef, make the bay an ideal location for wading, swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving. Families with young children will find these features particularly appealing, as the waters can be negotiated with relative ease. Yet, it pays to keep a watchful eye on the little ones frolicking in the waves. Windsurfing, water-skiing, jet-skiing, kayaking and other water sport options are available in abundance. Diving enthusiasts can opt for thrilling adventures, exploring the Boiler, British Sergeant and HMS Hermes shipwrecks resting on the ocean floor of the east coast; forever frozen in time.
The secluded beach stretches are ideal for those aimless strolls, lulled by the soothing symphony of the sea. The gorgeous sunrise in the horizon with its explosion of gold, amber and orange, is a spectacle that leaves every visitor mesmerized. Evenings are relaxing and rejuvenating, and most travelers enjoy dinners on the beach or poolside.
Pasikudah is predominantly a bay – beach experience and other attractions are few and far between. However, excursions to the nearby town of Batticaloa with its colonial era fort, churches, lighthouse, Hindu temples and mosques provide a temporary distraction from the surreal dreaminess of Pasikudah.
